The Town sells and maintains the cemetery for public burial. The Town does not install monuments or open grave sites. The funeral home or monument company of your choice will handle all arrangements for you. Please view the Cemetery Information and Ordinance document below for rules and guidelines.
Visiting hours are from dawn until dusk, 365 days a year.

Purchase Process
Please visit the Cemetery and use the Complete Cemetery Map above to select your preferred lot(s). Once you have chosen the lot number(s), please let us know. Public Works will flag all four corners of the selected lot(s) as soon as possible, and we will contact you once the flags are in place for your visual approval. After approval and receipt of payment, a Certificate will be issued and a copy will be mailed to you. Please include your mailing address and phone number with all correspondence. If mailing payment, use the address listed at the bottom center of this page.
Families may purchase up to four lots. Multiple burials may be interred in a single lot, including one casket with multiple cremains or multiple cremains only. Marker placement is a consideration, and some families choose to include multiple names on a single monument. Local monument companies are familiar with our Ordinance attached below (reference item #7).
Burial Process
Once a burial is required, your chosen funeral home or monument provider is required to contact us via info [at] southernshores-nc.gov (email) with the selected lot number for interment or marker placement so that we may flag all 4 corners of the lot beforehand. Flagging will be done as quickly as possible. Please give timely advance notice. We sell and maintain the cemetery and do not place markers or open grave sites. The funeral home and monument company of your choice will manage all arrangements for you.
Monuments
The local monument companies are familiar with our Ordinance attached below (reference item #7 for rules). We sell and maintain the cemetery and do not place markers or open grave sites. All monument placements require the monument company to contact us via cmills [at] southernshores-nc.gov (email) so that we may flag all 4 corners of the lot beforehand. Flagging will be done as quickly as possible. Please give timely advance notice.
