The Town sells and maintains the cemetery for public burial. The Town does not place monuments or open grave sites. The funeral home or monument company of your choice will handle all arrangements for you. Please view Ordinance below containing rules.
Visiting hours are from dawn until dusk, 365 days a year.

Purchase Process
Please visit the Cemetery using the Complete Cemetery Map above to make your selections. Once lot/s # are selected, please let us know. Public Works will flag all 4 corners the selected lot(s) as soon as possible. We will contact you when the flags have been placed. Then we ask that you visually approve the flagged lots. Once we have that approval and your payment is received, a Certificate will be issued and a copy will be forwarded to you. Please note your mailing address and phone number with any correspondence. If you mail payment, please utilize the address at the bottom center of this page.
The number of lots you decide to purchase is entirely up to you within the maximum purchase of 4 by any one family member. Multiple burials may be interred in a single lot; 1 casket and multiple cremains or multiple cremains. The only issue would be the marker placements. Some choose to place multiple names on a single stone. The local monument companies are familiar with our Ordinance attached below (reference items 6-12).
Burial Process
Once a burial is required, your chosen funeral home or monument provider is required to contact us via cmills [at] southernshores-nc.gov (email) with the selected lot number for interment or marker placement so that we may flag all 4 corners of the lot beforehand. Flagging will be done as quickly as possible. Please give timely advance notice. We sell and maintain the cemetery and do not place markers or open grave sites. The funeral home and monument company of your choice will manage all arrangements for you.
Monuments
The local monument companies are familiar with our Ordinance attached below (reference items 6-12 for rules). We sell and maintain the cemetery and do not place markers or open grave sites. All monument placements require the monument company to contact us via cmills [at] southernshores-nc.gov (email) so that we may flag all 4 corners of the lot beforehand. Flagging will be done as quickly as possible. Please give timely advance notice.
