Unless otherwise designated by official signage, parking is prohibited on all streets and street rights-of-way within Southern Shores. Southern Shores Civic Association (SSCA) and Chicahauk Property Owners Association (CPOA) parking permits and guest passes are not valid in sign-designated, Town-owned parking areas.
Important Information
- Expired permits are no longer valid and do not need to be returned. Please recycle them.
- Permits will not be mailed.
- Parking permits are only required for vehicles parked in Town-owned beach access parking lots. A permit is not required if you are not using these parking areas.
- A maximum of two (2) beach access parking permits (windshield stickers, hangtags, or one of each) will be issued to a property owner, regardless of the number of properties owned or the number of individuals or entities holding ownership interest in those properties.
- Year-round renters who provide a copy of a lease with a minimum term of 12 months may be issued a maximum of one (1) beach access parking permit per rental property, regardless of the number of tenants listed on the lease.
- Guest parking passes are not available.
- Applicants must present a valid driver's license and either a copy of a current tax record or a qualifying long-term lease (12 months or more), along with a signed application, in person at Town Hall during normal business hours. Due to the limited number of Town beach access parking spaces (135), permits will not be issued without proof of property ownership or qualifying tenancy.
- There is no fee to obtain a beach access parking permit. Permit holders are responsible for maintaining and safeguarding their issued permits.
- Lost or stolen permits are subject to a replacement fee of $75 per permit.
- Windshield sticker permits may be replaced at no charge if the vehicle is sold or the windshield is replaced, provided the remains of the original sticker are removed and returned to Town Hall.
- Beach access parking permits are valid only for the year(s) printed on the permit. All previously issued permits without expiration dates are no longer valid.
- Hangtag permits must be displayed from the vehicle's rearview mirror at all times while parked in a Town-owned beach access parking lot. Please remove the hangtag when leaving the parking area.
- Windshield sticker permits must be permanently affixed to the lower passenger-side corner of the vehicle windshield using the sticker's adhesive backing.
