The Police Department supports the core of Community Policing, and accepts its definition as both a philosophy and an organizational strategy that will allow the police and the community to work closely together. Together, we will work to establish and maintain mutual trust among all entities to improve the quality of life while enforcing the law.

ORGANIZATION

The Police Department consists of the Office of the Chief of Police, Administrative and Uniform and Divisions.The Chief of Police is appointed by and directly answerable to the Town Manager. He is the Chief Executive Officer of the Department and the final departmental authority in all matters of policy, operations and discipline, subject to any grievance and/or appeals process provided by the Town Policy.

The Southern Shores Police Department office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. You may reach our office at 261-3331 or fax at 261-4851. Please feel free to visit us at the municipal complex located at the intersection of NC 12 and NC 158. It is our goal for you, the citizen, and our officers to be on a first name basis and for us to work together to meet the needs of our community.
