What to do if you spot a coyote
Hazing is a method that makes use of deterrents to move an animal out of an area or discourage an undesirable behavior or activity. Hazing can help maintain a coyote’s fear of humans and deter them from backyards and play spaces.
- Yell and wave your arms while walking toward the coyote.
- Use noise makers like air horns, whistles, pots, or pennies in a can to scare them.
- Throw sticks, tennis balls, small rocks, or other projectiles at them.
- Turn the hose on them.
To learn more about hazing visit The Humane Society Coyote Hazing Guidelines, or NC Wildlife-Coexist with Coyotes
