Yard Signs ….
Did you know that signs posted in a street right-of-way may be subject to removal? Section 36-165 (7) h of the Town Code of Ordinances states that any sign located within a public or private right-of-way is prohibited. Temporary signs should be posted entirely on private property with the permission of the property owner. The area of street right of way beside a public street is generally a width of 8-12 feet from the edge of street pavement. Utility poles and vaults are generally good indicators as they are in a right of way. The Dare County GIS website gives a good estimation of where a street right of way line is in reference to the adjoining property.
