Town Engineer Costs Estimates For Three Construction Options for Walkway Along East Dogwood Trail
Preliminary engineering cost estimates for three (3) development options for the path along East Dogwood Trail are linked below as Options 1, 2, and 3.
Option 1 – 5′ concrete [Click to View Option 1opens PDF file ]
Option 2 – 5′ Asphalt [Click to View Option 2opens PDF file ]
Option 3 – 5′ KBI Flexi-pave [Click to View Option 3opens PDF file ]
Option 1 is the least expensive option.
Option 2 is expensive due to the specialty paver needed to install the asphalt path and based on the fact that the truck cannot back up to the paver so that asphalt must be loaded one loader bucket at a time. Longevity of asphalt is approximately one-half of that of concrete. Repair and replacement costs of asphalt exceed those of concrete.
Option 3 is the most expensive due to the materials and installation costs. This option also has some long term maintenance costs associated with vacuuming should the voids clog with sand over time.
Each option includes the same basic elements for earthwork and amenities. The only difference is in the material and labor costs for the path.
