Beach Vitex, a non-indigenous, deciduous woody plant that has been identified in our dunes. This plant has been declared as highly invasive and therefore a public nuisance and it is unlawful to plant or maintain. A survey of the Outer Banks coastline was conducted by the NC Beach Vitex Task Force in August and three (3) locations in Southern Shores were identified to contain this harmful plant. Those affected property owners have been contacted and instructed to initiate eradication of this invasive plant. Please go to brochure to learn more about plant and if you see any of this plant you can contract Melanie Doyle, NC Beach Vitex Task Force Coordinator 910-458-8257 Ext 250 or Susan Ruiz-Evans of the NC Cooperative Extension, Dare County 252-473-4290 for more information on the best way to eradicate.

Please e-mail, telephone or fax us with your questions and comments on Town matters. The Town Hall Office is open Monday - Friday 8:30 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. We are always happy to hear from you and try to respond to questions promptly .
