Citizens Communications

PURPOSE OF CITIZEN COMMUNICATIONS PLAN FOR SOUTHERN SHORES:

•  Provide a clear and consistent framework regarding the role of citizens in municipal planning and decision making.

•  Identify options to engage citizens in the municipal planning and decision making processes and describe the resources required to implement each of them.

•  Recommend standard operating procedures for each type of citizen communications.

•  Disseminating information to citizens (e.g. announcements, news updates or calls for volunteers)

•  Building shared awareness and understanding (e.g. use of outreach workshops to gather citizen input or presentation workshops to inform citizens regarding recommendations prior to public hearings)

•  Determining the will of the majority (e.g. use of public opinion polls, surveys and/or ballot referendums to test public opinion on specific decisions or actions.)
