Citizens Communications
PURPOSE OF CITIZEN COMMUNICATIONS PLAN FOR SOUTHERN SHORES:
Provide a clear and consistent framework regarding the role of citizens in municipal planning and decision making.
Identify options to engage citizens in the municipal planning and decision making processes and describe the resources required to implement each of them.
Recommend standard operating procedures for each type of citizen communications.
Disseminating information to citizens (e.g. announcements, news updates or calls for volunteers)
Building shared awareness and understanding (e.g. use of outreach workshops to gather citizen input or presentation workshops to inform citizens regarding recommendations prior to public hearings)
Determining the will of the majority (e.g. use of public opinion polls, surveys and/or ballot referendums to test public opinion on specific decisions or actions.)
